What is a Support Circle?

Circles represent unity, wholeness, and completeness. We are here in support circles to hold each other’s hands while we walk through our individual and collective healing journeys together.

A support circle is a safe place to share your experiences with other peers who are going through the same stage of the process as you are. Support circles are led by coaches or peer guides, are are co-created with participants who attend. We start with brief introductions, and then the coach or guide will lead discussions on topics relevant to the support circle theme (i.e. tapering, acute withdrawal, protracted, or caregiver).

Note: Our support circles are not intended to be a substitute for medical and/or mental health care. We do not give medical advice or taper plans. We are here to support each other with peer support, mutual respect, and compassion. We do not provide guidance on how to start, stop, or adjust medications. Any discussion of withdrawal experiences is educational and based on lived experience, not clinical instruction.

Are Support Circles Right For Me?

Considerations before signing up for this opportunity:

  • Healing Buddies are encouraged. This is where to meet them!

  • Our support circles are sacred and safe spaces. Everything said during the group is CONFIDENTIAL and is not to be shared outside of the group.

  • We do not give medical advice or taper plans.

  • We do not knock each other down by saying things like "at least you can (drive, exercise, work) or any other kind of invalidation, belittling, bullying, abuse, etc.

  • If you are easily triggered by people with more time off than you who may still be struggling, you may not want to join at this time without extra support.

  • Kindness, validation, support, reassurance, and community are the values that guide us.

  • The coach/peer guide’s role is to ensure all leave feeling hopeful, supported, and encouraged.

Sanctuary Sundays
with Reverend Wendy Jo Cole

Sanctuary Sundays is a spiritual community. We create sacred time and space each Sunday together. We are a sanctuary of and for survivors/thrivers from all faiths and traditions who come together to share prayers, poetry, verses, stories, and songs that connect us to spirit. We will have a topic each week that supports all of our healing, including nurturing ourselves, radical acceptance, little love notes, turning over anger, beloved community, the extraordinary in the ordinary, and more. We believe that our spiritual connection to the divine and our heart’s full connection to each other furthers our healing.  We invite you to come to our gathering each week just as you are.

To welcome everyone, Sanctuary Sundays is offered on a ‘pay what you are able’ basis, with a minimum donation of $1. Our suggested contribution is $25.
